Semester 1 - Project 2 - Other media

I decided to use media other than pen line drawings for my animation, for varience.

For the shots of the inside of the body i decided to use black acrylic and pen, as it worked out well in the sketches above. The change from the black and white of the pen drawings to the coloured organs will really give the impression of a change of scene. I like the black acrylic, as it shows that we are inside the body at this point in the animation, singling out the organ(s) that I want to show, giving it a sort of "section view" feel t it. Also the texture of the brushstrokes when animated gives an impression of movement that I like.

Semester 1 - Project 2 - Bouncy Bouncy - Storyboard.

The storyboard for my animation - "Let's do business things"

Basic Story: Two characters, one throws the ball at the other, it hits him on the head, as an act of revenge, or something, he decides to eat it, but it momentarily gets caught in his windpipe, and he has to cough it back up, before it drops to his stomach, dissolving in the acid.
In the final animation I omitted a few scenes I felt I didn't need such as the hand grabbing the ball off the floor, and the side view of the body.

Semester 1 - Project 2 - When Balls go Bad - Character Design.

In this brief we were asked to "show your chosen ball interacting with an environment."
An early idea was if someone were to swallow the ball, and show its journey through the digestive system. But as the idea developed I decided to show more about how the ball were to end up in the body using an interaction between two characters, as well as the journey though the body. When designing the characters, I wanted to make sure they were distinguishable from one another.

Character A:  Frankly he's pretty nasty looking, and i wanted to make him that way. The sketchy kind of line i used was something I thought suited his face, and was something i wanted to carry on into the final animation.

Character B: I wanted him to be recognisably different, so no tie, fully bald, with different features

The level of detail in the characters meant that the line drawings I used for the animation tended to vary (the lines for the stubble, the shading on the lips etc.) giving the characters a bit of a wiggly animation. When first seeing it, I felt it suited the style in which I had sketched them in, so i decided to keep, and sometimes emphasise this effect.

Inspiration/Find

Check out these frames for Disney's "Robin Hood". Pretty smooth no?

Lots to learn.

Week 4.

As part of my first project while studying animation at Edinburgh College of Art, i was recommended to set up an "online journal" of my work, a space to put and review my work and to let others see it, and a space for my inspirations and muses, an online view of my mind at work. So here we are.
